Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Concordia University Exchange

Since its inception in 2011, I am the coordinator of the direct exchange between the Department of Theatre at Concordia University in Montreal and the Department of Media and Theatre Studies at the University of Erlangen/Nürnberg. This unique DAAD-sponsored program (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst, German Academic Exchange Service) allows our students to study theatre in the heart of Germany, view theatre at a number of European theatre festivals, study performance analysis, as well as collaborate with a group of German students on an original performance creation.

The piece is first workshopped in Germany, where I view the final class outcome during my customary visit in July. It is then further developed during the fall semester at Concordia and performed as part of our student theatre SIPA festival. During my summer stays in Erlangen, I have given classes and talks open to the university community sponsored by the DAAD.

Past topics explored have been experimenting with the Theatre of Cruelty of Antonin Artaud, and issues with gender differences taking shape from the writings of Judith Butler.[bodied]5.jpg[bodied].jpg[bodied]3.jpg[bodied]4.jpg[bodied]2.jpg
